About the Lars Tragedy

This is my model of the Lars Tragedy. This occurred on the Lars Homestead in 0 BBY. The Empire attacked the Lars Homestead looking for R2-D2 and C-3PO. Luke Skywalker was away with Ben Kenobi and the droids. He realized the Jawas would lead the empire to his home, so he left Ben Kenobi with the droids and raced home. There he found only the charred remains of his home and family.

Reason

I modeled the Lars Tragedy as sort of a dark joke for my Lars Homestead diorama. Several people suggested modeling them, and after some consideration, and boredom waiting on the large FDM parts to print, I went ahead and modeled them.

Models

Normally, I build my own models. But a skeleton is a complex model, and I didn’t feel like doing it. I probably wouldn’t have done it well anyway, as I deal mostly with mechanical models. On top of that, there are hundreds of Skeleton models out there, in varying degrees of detail and realism that talented people have already built and shared with the world. I chose a skeleton model by Diego Luján García over on Sketchfab as the basis for these models. His model is a good basis for 3D printing because all the bones are closed solids. It is also licensed under Creative Commons as well.

The modifications I made to the skeleton were as follows: I separated the individual bones and then grouped into major body parts (forearm, hand, thigh, upper torso etc). I then posed the figures and then I thickened the joints so all the bones overlapped for printing purposes.

Notes

I had a lot of fun doing this. It got me out of my comfort zone and got me to do some more sculpting in Blender. The model is 6″ scale, designed to be used with Hasbro Black Series action figures, but can be scaled to work with other larger scales. It was built in Rhino and Blender, supported in Lychee Slicer and printed on an Anycubic Photon Mono X 6K in ABS-Like Pro 2 resin.
