What
This is another model from the Andor series, and also from Narkina 5. This is the cart used in the prison to transport completed EP-N5 Fastener assemblies from the work table to the delivery bay.
Why
I started modeling the cell block from the Narkina 5 prison complex, and before I was finished, I decided I wanted to build the work table as well, and if I’m going to build that I should probably build the part that the table is supposed to make, so everything fits together, and then I thought, why not make the cart too? So I did. As with most things I model, it is designed for use with 1:12 scale figures.
Process
I liked the triangular profile of the main body, so I decided to model it. The cart has an interesting look and I also wanted to try out using bearings as wheels as well as swivels for the trailing casters.
Interaction
This model is designed to fit one or several of the completed EP-N5 Fastener assemblies.
I decided to try using some small bearings for the wheels and the swivels in this model. 5x11x5mm bearings were just the right size, and I designed my casters around this. I created stationary casters for the front and swivel casters for the rear. I had to do a bit of sanding on both the axles and the sockets in the bottom of the cart, but not too much, and it works!
Painting
This was a quick paint job, but required a bit of masking. First thing I did was wet sand the 2 metal stripes on the side of the body down to a 3000 grit shine starting with 600, then 2000, then 3000. Then I masked them. Then I painted the body, grille, bumper and the bottom of the back panel “White Scar” from Citadel. Once that had dried, I masked the upper part of the grille and the 2 lower parts of the back panel and set them aside to be painted black.
I then masked the white paint on the main body, leaving only the 2 polished bare plastic strips exposed. It took a few tries to get all the lines exact, but since everything was dead straight, that didn’t really take much time. Once I was happy with the masking, I sprayed Alclad Chrome directly on the plastic. This left the stripes looking like nice raw aluminum siding.
Next, I painted the black parts “Chaos Black” (Also from Citadel). Once everything was dry, I brush painted the rest of the details using Tamiya model paints.
