Anakin’s Podracer Helmet, 6″ scale

Why

This is my 6″ scale Anakin’s Podracer Helmet. Hasbro recently released the Anakin Skywalker action figure from The Phantom Menace. I got the idea in my head to start working on a 3D printed podracer for him, and the first thing I decided to work on was his helmet. This is my first attempt at designing accessories for actual figures, but I think it came out pretty well.

You can now purchase a set of prints on Ebay!

Scanning

I purchased a Revopoint Mini 3D scanner a while ago, and I have played with it a bit, but haven’t really used it for any “real” projects yet, but this gave me an opportunity. If I’m going to build something to fit on a figure, I should scan the figure, so I did. The scanned figure model was incomplete and had holes in places, but had the geometry where it needed it, in the head and shoulders.

2 Different Versions

I built 2 different basic versions of the model, one with no neck cowl, and one with a neck cowl. Additionally, each version has a goggles up and a goggles down version.  I printed them in ABS-Like Pro 2 resin. All of them print just fine, and all of them go on the figure just fine.

Anakin’s Podracer Helmet works very well with Anakin’s Workshop from Landspeeder Luke.

Issues

Unfortunately, the goggles down versions WILL break on removal from the figure at some point. I recommend against using it on the figure. The cowl versions are a bit fragile as well. For this reason, I would recommend printing these versions at 101% scale so they are not tight on the head, otherwise, they will likely break. I have included them in the zip file for the heck of it, for use in a diorama or something. There is also a small helmet stand as well. It should work fine for almost any helmet.

Disclaimers

Because printers and resins vary, I recommend starting with the goggles up, no cowl version to test fit to your figure. The helmet is designed to fit on the head snugly, but not so snug that it is hard to remove or breaks (See notes on the goggles down and cowl versions above).

I have included both unsupported and supported models in the zip files below.

I am releasing the models under a Creative Commons BY-SA license.
